The manufacturer of material shall be responsible for performing all required tests pertaining to material for tensile, elongation and specific gravity and shall furnish a certificate of conformance with each shipment stating the material conforms to the requirements of AMS3678 and the appropriate slash sheet as applicable. Manufacturer of machined retainers shall provide all samples for dimensional stability and porosity tests. Purchaser of finished parts reserves the right to perform any confirmatory testing deemed necessary to ensure that the material conforms to the requirements of this standard.
Sample retainers as required in 4.3. Retainers shall be tested for porosity, cracks and other surface defects likely to be detrimental to the performance of the parts by black light penetrant inspection.
The sample retainers shall be coated with suitable penetrant and subsequently cleaned with a solvent, all in accordance with the penetrant manufacturer’s recommended procedure. The parts shall be inspected under black light. Any retained dye, other than minor indications atributable to surface machining irregularities, is an indication of inclusions, porosity or cracks. Any inclusion greater than 0.010 inch (0.254 mm) in any direction, or any porosity or crack shall be cause for rejection.
Failure of any re-test specimen to meet the specified requirements shall be cause for rejection of the complete lot. If any specimen used in any of the tests as required in 4.4.1 fails to meet the specified requirements, disposition of the parts shall be based on the results of testing additional specimens for each original non-conforming specimen as identified in AMS3678 and applicable slash sheets.
If more than one specimen in the sample used in the tests as required in 4.4.2 fails to meet the specified requirements, the lot shall be considered non-conforming and may be rejected. If no more than one specimen used in the tests as required in 4.4.2 of this standard fails to meet the specified requirements, disposition of the parts may be based on the results of testing another set of the same number of specimens as first tested. The lot shall be considered non-conforming if any re-test specimen fails to meet the specified requirements.SAE AS 5782A pdf free download.
