Metal jewellery should not be worn when working around electric circuits. Rings, watchbands, necklaces, bracelets and other such metallic articles provide excellent electrical contact with the body and can conduct current themselves enough to produce skin burns, even with low voltages. Metal jewellery also has the potential to damage personal protective equipment, especially insulating gloves.
When work on a live circuit is required, the service or repair shall be performed by a designated person (refer to Clause 1.4.5) and in accordance with the manufacturer’ s repair procedure included in the relevant workshop manual. When working on live circuits, it is best to perform the work with one hand, so as to prevent a deadly hand-to-hand (through the chest) shock current path.
When servicing or repairing PEVs, HEVs, BEVs or PHEVs, access and use of personal protection equipment (PPE) consistent with AS 2225 is required, including availability and access to all manufacturer’ s special service tools (SST) and insulated tools.
If battery electrolyte has been swallowed, the following procedure applies:
(a) The person who swallowed the electrolyte, other than lithium-ion, must drink large quantities of water to dilute the electrolyte. Do not administer water to an unconscious person.
For lithium-ion electrolyte, rinse out the patient’s mouth without swallowing.
(b) Do not induce vomiting. If vomiting occurs spontaneously, keep the patient’s head lowered and forward to reduce the risk of asphyxiation. If unconscious, keep the patient’s head to the side and have suction ready.
(c) Seek immediate medical attention.
If electrolyte leaks and gets exposed to the air, electrolyte vapours could be released. Even in a non-fire situation, the electrolyte vapours might be toxic or at least severely irritating.
If electrolyte vapour has been inhaled, the following procedure applies:
(a) The person who inhaled the electrolyte must be immediately moved to fresh air.
(b) Administer oxygen and transport the patient to an appropriate medical facility.AS 5732 pdf free download.
