Where an alteration is made to pressure equipment before or after pressure equipment completion, alterations of the type listed below shall be treated as a new design and, where required by Table 2.1 for the relevant hazard level, the altered design shall be verified in accordance with Section 4.
Alterations requiring design verification include, but are not limited, to the following:
(a) An increase in the design pressure (internal or external) or an increase in design temperature sufficient to affect component strength regardless of whether or not a physical change was made to the pressure equipment.
(b) A decrease in the minimum operating temperature such that other material type or additional mechanical tests are required.
(c) The addition of new nozzles, openings or attachments in a boiler or pressure vessel,which require new design calculations, e.g. where the nozzles or openings are larger in diameter than openings already in the equipment, or are located in positions which require redesign.
(d) A change in the dimensions or contour of pressure equipment which affects stress calculations.
(e) A change of more than 2% in any heating surface area of a boiler.
(f) The addition of a pressurized or vacuum jacket to pressure equipment which affects stress calculations.
(g) Replacement of a pressure retaining part in a pressure vessel or boiler with a material of lower nominal tensile strength or a different nominal composition from that used in the original design.
(h) A change in materials or manufacturing methods,such as forming,welding consumables and heat treatment including re-heat treatment, which could reduce the safety and serviceability of the equipment.
(i) A change in pressure equipment Standard or to a specification which may reduce the safety, performance or serviceability of the equipment.
(j) A change that would impair internal access for inspection or maintenance.
