Gas equipment shall be designed and built so as to operate safely and present no danger to persons, domestic animals or property when used for its intended purpose in accordance with the supplied instructions.
An appliance offered for sale shall-
(a) be accompanied by comprehensive installation instructions;
(b) be accompanied by instructions explaining use and maintenance; and
(c) bear any required permanent markings.
The instructions and markings shall be provided in English and may be supplemented by appropriate diagrams, pictures or drawings.
The instructions supplied with an appliance shall contain all information for installation and commissioning of the appliance in any intended application to ensure that those operations are correctly performed and that the appliance may be used safely. In particular the instructions shall be consistent with AS/NZS 5601 and specify-
(a) the type of gas to be used;
(b) the gas supply pressure and gas appliance operating pressure at a specified point;
(c) ventilation requirements;
(d) conditions for disposal of combustion products; and
(e) any special requirements.
The instructions shall-
(a) contain all the information required for safe use of the gas equipment;
(b) contain details of maintenance to be carried out by the user, in a safe manner; and
(c) draw the user’ s attention to any restrictions on use or special precautions required to ensure safety.
The markings on an appliance and, where applicable, its packaging shall clearly state the gas type and pressure for which the appliance is designed and any restrictions on use, in particular the restriction whereby the appliance shall be installed and operated outdoors only or only in areas where there is sufficient ventilation.
The markings on an appliance shall include-
(a) the name or registered trade- name or mark of the manufacturer, or supplier; and
(b) means to identify the specific model.
