The dimensions of male parts, liners, nuts and blank caps shall be as specified on the following relevant figures and tables. Expanded-type male parts and liners shall be provided with suitable expansion grooving as illustrated in Appendix B Figure B.1, to give adequate strength to the joint between male part or liner and the tubing.
This Appendix provides a method of expansion for assembling of ring joint expanded-type male parts and liners with nominal diameters of 25.40 mm up to and including 101.60 mm on straight tubes of the dimensions in AS 1528.1. Other equipment and other procedures are acceptable provided that pressure-tight joins are achieved.
The procedure is as follows:
(a) Release the clamp block, push the tube forward, re-clamp and fit the male part or liner to the tube ensuring that the tube end is in position and square as shown in Figures C.2 and C.3.Protect the faces of the liner and male part from damage when fitting to the tube.
(b) If the liner or male part is a loose fit on the tube, then the expander can be inserted and lightly adjusted to expand tube slightly in the liner or male part for holding in position only.
(c) Release the clamp block and remove the split cutting ring. Position the liner or male part with the tube in the holding section of the clamp block and re-clamp.
(d) Clean and lightly oil the expander rollers (they shall never be used dry). Insert the expander with either the distance ring for liner or distance plate for the male part in position (see Figures C.2 and C.3).
(e) Set the torque wrench according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply the wrench and rotate the expander in a clockwise direction until the wrench releases.
(f) Release the expander by an anti-clockwise rotation.
(g) Use the levers to remove the expander.
(h) Release the clamp block and remove the tube male part or liner assembly.AS 1528.2 pdf free download.
