The rules for the design of enclosures of gas-insulated switch-gear and controlgear prescribed in this C lause are solely for the purposc of determining the dimens1ons and the m1n1mum thickness to ensure sa fety of the enclosures.
The rules take into account that these enclosures are subjected to particular operatiny cunuitions (see clause 1) wh1cn dist1n-guish them from conventional compressed air receivers and s1milar storage vessels .
The thickesses determined by the various equations are minima and therefore ，the specipic nominal thickness shall be increased by the amount of any negative tolerance permitted by the material spec1f1cation.
NOTE Thereare designs of enclosures which difper in gecmetry from those for which equations are given. These designs are permitted provided the calculation 1s justi fied or prooftests are carrled out as prescribed In 7.5.3.
The nominal design strength (K) shall be selected from the mate-rial standards. For castings the nominal design strength of the mater 1a1 w1 thout heat treatment shall be used 1n the heat af fec-ted areas of the welds.
