For floor on ground, cellar or crawl space: calculation as specified in ISO 13370.
The heat transfer between the zone and the external environment through the ground is calculated as the sum of a steady-state component and a monthly variable component. The monthly variable component is treated as one-dimensional and perpendicular to the floor surface. The calculation procedure shall combine this heat flow rate with the thermal storage of the floor construction together with a 0,5 m thick layer of soil beneath it as described in ISO 13370. Thermal bridges of the wall/floor connections are accounted for separately in ISO 13370.
A multi-zone calculation with thermal interactions between the zones can be executed as a single zone calculation with, for each time interval, alternatingly calculating one zone and regarding the other zone(s) as adjacent space(s). There is a risk of oscillation of the calculation results if the heat exchange between the zones is large compared to the other terms in the thermal balance. Another option is to solve the matrix of the combined equations for all zones at once. This can easily lead to excessive calculation run time.
A multi-zone calculation with thermal interactions between the zones requires significantly more and sometimes arbitrary input data [on transmission properties and air flow direction and size, etc.]. A further complication may be the involvement of different heating, cooling and ventilation systems for different zones, which adds to the complexity and arbitrariness of the input and modelling.
The absence of conformance criteria and deviation allowances is a drawback of the ANSI/ASHRAE 140 test suite. At the same time, the available results from renowned software tools are not per se the best results because each of these tools has its specific type of application and scope with specific limitations. This drawback is no major issue for this document because conformance criteria and deviation allowances highly depend on the application area. ISO 52016-1 is an International Standard with calculation procedures that are tailored to specific application areas, based on the generic calculation procedures in this document. As a consequence, the most relevant BESTEST cases have been adopted in ISO 52016-1. The results are intended for the verification and validation of the hourly calculation procedures of ISO 52016-1.EN ISO 52017-1 pdf download.
